12 Best Affordable & Cheap Hotels In Bali

Using our extensive knowledge of living on the island, we’ve compiled a list of the best cheap hotels in Bali that offer quality rooms, good facilities and great value for money

Before settling on Bali, we stayed in various budget hotels, including a private villa with a pool for just $50, but with the global price rises recently, these gems are harder to find. However, we think it’s still possible to find affordable hotels in Bali Indonesia. In fact, all the hotels featured in this article are under $50 per night.

Plus, in addition to cheap accommodation in Bali, the island offers lots of free or low-cost activities (for example, waterfall and beach entrance fees are around $1) and cultural experiences as well as fantastic budget food options (in Bali you can eat under $2 in local warungs).

So, if you’re travelling on a shoestring budget, this post is for you! We’ve also been there and love Bali for offering a great bang for your buck!

The Most Cheap Places To Stay In Bali – KUTA & SANUR

The cheapest place to stay in Bali is likely to be found in the most popular locations, such as Kuta and Sanur, which are known to cater for budget travellers.

You may compromise on location (distance from the beach) or facilities (no spa or pool), but you are still guaranteed safe, clean accommodation.

The following hotels offer air-conditioned rooms, free WiFi and room service.

KUTA

Kuta used to be the capital of Bali and attracted primarily backpackers. Today, Kuta is no longer that place. The young crowds moved to a more upmarket Seminyak and hipster, digital nomadie Canggu. As a result, nowadays, Kuta is much quieter and a fantastic place to find budget accommodation. It’s also a great location if you want to stay near the airport in Bali, or if you’re travelling with a family, stay in one of the fantastic family-friendly resorts in Legian, which is a part of Kuta.

Apart from great value-for-money hotels in Kuta, this area also has incredible beaches, good beginner surfing spots and amazing sunsets. You can try new water sports, go surfing, shopping or visit Waterbom. Take in a cultural show at Kuta Theatre or visit one of the oldest Buddhist temples in Bali, Vihara Dharmayana.

If you can stretch your budget, we recommend booking a room with a balcony which offers pool views.

SANUR

Sanur on Bali’s southeast coast offers a good range of budget-friendly accommodations. It’s a laid-back but lively town backed by eight kilometres of sandy beaches.

Best Cheap Hotels In Bali: UBUD

If you prefer scenic views, hiking, nature, or partying all night, stay in Ubud. Its green landscapes and picture-perfect waterfalls, such as Tibumana, offer a taste of authentic Bali, and it has good transport links to other destinations.

You can visit the Royal Palace, Ubud market, Monkey Forest, Puri Lukisan Art Museum or Neka Museum. Hikers will love Campuhan Ridge Walk and the Tegallalang rice terraces. We think some of the best budget hotels in Bali can be found in Ubud.

The following cheap hotels in Bali Ubud offer air-conditioned rooms, room service, free WiFi and free parking.

#5 Saren Indah Hotel – best value-for-money budget hotel in Ubud.

If you’re looking for affordable hotels in Bali Indonesia where you get a lot for your money, you’ll love Saren Indah. We think this 3-star hotel is grossly underrated.

📍 Location | The hotel is 500 metres from Monkey Forest and a 10-minute drive from Ubud Palace. There are a couple of restaurants within walking distance, but for a wider choice, you will need a car.

Best Budget Hotels In Bali: SEMINYAK

If you ask Bali residents like us where the cheap hotels in Bali can be found, few will say Seminyak.

This upscale, bohemian beach town is popular with families, couples and expats. It offers great restaurants, shops, galleries and bars, as well as pristine beaches. It’s home to Pura Petitegenet, one of Bali’s most sacred water temples.

You won’t find the cheapest hotel in Bali here, but we’ve discovered a few lesser-known affordable accommodation options in Seminyak.

Our top picks include free WiFi, air-conditioned rooms, free parking and room service.

#9 Seminyak Square Hotel And Villas – Best Central Location For A Cheap Hotel In Bali.

Although this isn’t the cheapest accommodation in Bali, you get a lot for your money at this hotel. Plus, it’s in a fantastic central location.

If you are travelling as a group, book the one-bedroom suite and split the costs. It sleeps up to four people and has a separate living and dining area with a kitchenette.

Best Affordable Hotels In Bali: CANGGU

Lively Canggu has long been a backpacker favourite. As one of Bali’s top surfing destinations, it attracts a global crowd, so it offers accommodation for all budgets.

It’s packed with trendy cafes, boutique shops, great restaurants and lively bars. We think it’s a fun place to stay for young crowds, digital nomads and surfers. We live here ourselves, and despite its traffic problems, increasing overdevelopment and skyrocketing accommodation prices, it is still an affordable place to stay.

Our budget-friendly Canggu recommendations include free WiFi, air-conditioned rooms, free parking and room service.

#11 Lebak Bali Residence – Best For Large Groups.

Group accommodation can often stretch the budget, but not at the 4-star Lebak Bali Residence.

Cheap Hotels In Bali: FAQs

How much does it cost to stay in a hotel in Bali?

It costs as much as you want to spend! One of the cheapest hotels in this article costs just $35 per night for two people, whereas a one-night stay for two people at the 5-star Alila Villas costs $1,633.

Is it cheap to stay in Bali?

You will find it cheap to stay in Bali if you stay in a budget or mid-range hotel, combine eating out with self-catering and enjoy a mix of free and paid activities.

Due to the number of visitors to the island, there is a lot of competition, so you can expect to find a wide range of quality cheap hotels in Bali to choose from.

Is $100 a day enough for Bali?

If you’re prepared to stay in a cheap hotel, self-cater and not book every paid tour or activity on offer, we think $100 a day is definitely doable in Bali for two people. We have been living in Bali for several years and rarely come close to this level of expenditure.

If you chose one of the cheap places to stay in Bali featured in this article, you would have $50 – $65 a day to spend on food, attractions and transport.

Can you live in Bali for $1000 a month?

$1000 a month equates to just $33 a day. Even if you stay in the cheapest accommodation in Bali, use public transport, self-cater and only do free activities, you will find it challenging but not impossible to stick to $33 a day / $1000 a month.

We suggest looking for long-term rentals (ideally in shared accommodation), which may help you stick within your budget.
